John 6:30, They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

John 6:31, Our father did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

John 6:32, Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Mo’ses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

John 6:33, For the bread of God is he which, cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

John 6:34, Then said they unto him, Lord evermore give us this bread.

John 6:35, And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

In response to the people demanded a miraculous sign, for the jews require a sign, the greek’s seek after wisdom. that we may see, and believe thee, to be the promised Messiah, Then God’s order is to see and believe, but the divine order is believe, they did not have faith or spiritual perception, but they understood that Jesus was proclaiming something new. His coming was claimed as an advance over Moses’, they reasoned, if you are more than Moses’, do more than Moses. The crowd that asked for a sign from Jesus, must have felt that the feeding of the 5,000, did not compare with Mo’ses gift of bread from heaven.

Psalms 78:24, And had rained down manna upon them to eat and had given them of the corn of heaven.

They remembered the divine gift of manna, they though Jesus feeding was less significant because the manna, fed the whole nation for 40 years, they had fell to understand that the everlasting bread of life   is Christ Jesus. They missed to important things, first many of the Israelite who were fed 40 years, did not believe. The important thing is not the magnitude of the sign but the perception of its significance, second both Mo’ses and Jesus, were authenticated by God’s signs; therefore both should be listed and to believed, in a solemn revelation (I tell you the truth:).

John 6:26, Jesus said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye seek me not because ye saw the miracle, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

Jesus corrected their ideas in three way, first he tell the Father gave the manna, and not Mo’ses, second he remain them that the Father, was still giving manna then not merely in the past, and last the true bread from heaven is Jesus, and not the manna. Manna was food for the body and it was useful, but Jesus is God’s full provision for people in their whole existence, God is the source of all life, the son has life in himself.

John 5:26, For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the son to have life in himself;

John 5:27, And hath given him authority to execute, judgment also because he is the son of man.

He has come to give real and lasting life to people, sin cut them off from God, who is life, and they die spiritally and physically. Christ has come down from heaven to give life to the world. Jesus is the genuine bread of God. They asked for this better food, like woman at the well. The woman saith unto him sir give me this water that I thirst not neither come hither to draw. They want the better food, and they wanted it continually from now on, not like the manna which lasted for 40 years. Jesus said I am the bread of life, he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst, but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him, shall be in him a well of water springing up into ever lasting life.

The bread of life is the life supply in the form of food, it is like the tree of life, which also is the life supply of good food. This also is the changing of death into life, the source of death is the tree of knowledge, and the source of life is the tree of life. Once someone is in right relationship with Jesus, he or she find a satisfaction which is everlasting and not temporal.

One day he will showed us a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal proceeding out of the throne of God and of the lamp. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, Which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
