Psalm 90:2, Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
GOD IS THE CREATOR: The first chapter of the first book of the Bible begins with one of the most powerful phrases in Scripture: In the beginning when God created. In Genesis 1:1, We find these six words to be exceedingly simple, yet deeply profound. They teach us two things about God before we get into the details of the Creation story. The first thing we learn is that in the beginning, before all else existed, God was present, This means that God predates our understanding of beginning in such a way that God always existed. By faith we believe that God has always existed without a beginning and without an end, which is why the psalmist told us that from everlasting to everlasting you are God. This is important for our understanding of God, because nothing exist before God. The second things we learn is that God created. This teaches us that we do not serve a distant, far off, cosmic God created actually means the exact opposite to us. there is nothing in this world, including you and me, that God did not create, God put thought, care and love into creation. From just these few words of introduction to the book of Genesis, we understand God as one who alway existed and one who creates.
GENESIS: And the earth was without form, and void: and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the water. And God said , let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night, and the evening and the morning were the first day. And he created all living things and more, for mankind that we may live in him. Mankind is the Crown of God’s Creation, Everything builds to the sixth day when God spoke, Let us make mankinds in our image, according to our likeness. Prior to this, everything was created according to God’s will and pleasure, but the perfection of God’s image and likeness was reserved for the pinnacle of God’s creation, which was mankind. Notice that what follows is the submission of every living thing that God has created to the dominion of mans. God’s dominion was and is over mankind, and under God’s guidance mankind in turn has dominion over every living creature.
HUMANITY: Mankind and all of life depend upon God for sustenance, the story of creation teaches us that there is a dependent relationship between the Creator and creation. How can creation know its purpose or what it has been created for, independent of its Creator? Today as Christian believers, we talk about knowing our purposes and living lives of faith led by God’s Holy Spirit. we do this because we are only capable of interacting with God in the distinctive way of dependency that was taught to us in the creation story of Genesis 1. Everything we have everything we are, and everything we will be come through the grace of God through his divine or permissive will. Therefore, it behooves us to take more time to plug in to God’s ultimate power and plan than trying to do it on our own, only to find out that we cannot do it without God.
The who of Creation is more important than the what or the why God is recognized at the creative force behind all of Creation.
