Acts 20:28

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

God own blood indicating the precious love of God for the church and the preciousness, the exceeding worth, of the church in the eyes of God. Here the apostle did not touch the divine life and nature of the church as in Ephesians, for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, and is the savior of the body. But the value of the church as a treasure to God, a treasure which he acquired with his own precious blood. Paul expected that the elders as overseers would treasure the church as God did. Both the Holy Spirit and God’s own blood are divine provisions for the church that he treasures. The Holy Spirit is God himself, and God’s own blood denotes God’s work. God’s redemptive work acquired the church; now God himself, the all inclusive life giving Spirit, and so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul, the last Adam was made a quickening spirit, Cares for the church through the overseers, God own blood is the blood of Jesus Christ, this implies that the Lord Jesus is God, nothing can be compared to the precious blood of Christ.

Foremost as ye know the ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; The highest price was paid for our redemption, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamp without blemish and without spot: The blood of Christ, by which we are sprinkled and thus marked out from the common people, is more precious than silver and gold. The highest price was paid for our redemption that we might be redeemed from a vain manner of life to a holy life. For this we should have a holy fear, a healthy, serious caution before God, so that, as God’s elect, redeemed with such a high price, we will not miss the purpose of this most high redemption of Christ. The value of the blood of the Lamp is overcoming the enemy, scripture said and the overcame him by the blood of the Lamp, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. The blood of the Lamp, which is for our redemption, answers before God all the accusations of the devil against us and gives us the victory over him. We need to apply this blood whenever we sense he accusation of the devil.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and said, behold the Lamp of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
