6. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. 7. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. 8. For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when i will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9. Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the days when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. 10. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11.And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, know the Lord: for all shall know me from the least to the greatest. 12. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sin and their inquities will I remember no more. 13. In that he saith, a new covenant, he hath made the first old, Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
The promise of a new covenant was made, the writer pointed out, in this passage, where God found fault with the people. The old covenant failed because of the sinfulness of the nation of Israel and man. In his heavenly ministry Christ as the mediate, is the executor of the new covenant, the new testament which he bequeathed to us by the death. This better covenant not only was enacted upon better promises of a better law, the inner law of life. In Hebrews chapter 9:15, Said and for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called, might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. Neither by the blood of goat and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption. This also was consummated with Christ’s better sacrifices which accomplished for us an eternal redemption, and the better blood of Christ. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood is no remission. It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with there; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. Which purifies our conscience even more the high priest of this better covenant, the eternal son of the living God ministry with a more prefect tabernacle. Just as the old covenant was the old law enacted by God, so the new covenant is the new law enacted by God as mentioned. These are an inner inclination to obey God will put his laws in their mind and write them on their hearts. A firm relationship with God I will be their God, and they will be my people. The knowledge of God they will all know him and the forgiveness of sins I will forgive their wickedness and I will remember their sins on more. But the Abrahamic covenant blessings to Israel, also promised universal blessing, so the new covenant becomes as well God ‘s vehicle of salvation for believers since the cross, He declared that salvation is from the jews, In John chapter 4:22, Jesus said, ye worshIp ye know not what; we know what we worship: for salvation is of the jews. In no way should this impede the perception of the Christian church as a unique, inter advent body, closely united to Christ as his bride and significantly distinet from the nation of Israel. But inasmuch as all salvation is through the cross of Christ, it is also through the blood of the new covenant.
