During “back to school” time, families of kids with diabetes have a longer-than-usual list of supplies to gather, tasks to complete and concerns to address. An estimated 208,000 children in the United States live with diabetes, a chronic disease that must be managed 24/7. These children are put at serious risk if no one at school can help with daily and emergency diabetes care when a school nurse isn’t present.
That’s why the American Diabetes Association’s Safe at School campaign is dedicated to making sure that all children with diabetes are medically safe at school and have the same educational opportunities as their peers.
On Thursday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, the Association will hold a special Facebook chat on keeping children with diabetes Safe at School. Special guest Crystal Jackson, Director for Legal Advocacy, will answer fan questions live!
To participate, just log on to Facebook and “like” the American Diabetes Association Facebook page. Watch for the 1 p.m. status update—the chat will take place via the comments!
