Reverend Chester Benjamin
Our story begins in 1977 when the founder Apostle Shelia Benjamin~Inusah was 15 years old. Her father the late Reverend Chester Benjamin was employed and newly retired from the Nuclear Weapons Industry (K-25) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Reverend Benjamin worked at the K-25 plant for many years to take care of his wife and 7 children. Unaware that one day his exposure to toxic substances found in the energy/nuclear weapons industry would lead to cancer which would one day take his life. Chief Apostle Shelia Benjamin Inusah the youngest of the 7 children at age 15 stayed at her father’s bedside for 64 days providing total care for him. She even had his nurses teach her how to suction his mouth and perform all his care and after 64 days watched him die with lung cancer which had metastasized to the brain. It was then Shelia was called to be a nurse, but not only a nurse but a minister to those without homes and health care. Shelia a cancer survivor herself decided at 15 she would take care of patients with cancer, black lung disease, beryllium, and asbestos, as well as, minister to the sick and homeless. After many hardships, a rare type of cancer of the adrenal glands,
many surgeries (12), much loss and heart ache: God has now allowed her to become a nurse, minister, and founder of several companies. She takes care of others the way she took care of her father all those many years ago. She believes in ministering to the body, mind, soul and spirit.
36 years later God has allowed her dream to become reality. Now she works hard to help other families take care of their loved ones. She helps other families in a way she was unable to help with her father. She helps others care for their loved ones at no cost to them under the EEOICPA (Department of Labor). This program provides medical benefits to employees who become ill as a result of working in the Atomic Weapons, Energy, Nuclear, and Mining industry. She makes sure every client is treated with the same tender loving care that her father received. Dorothy Village is in loving memory of Dorothy Benjamin and her passion of taking others in and providing a roof over their head, and making sure they were fed…
